Responsibility and Specialist Allowances

54.    The existing provisions governing the payment of responsibility and specialist allowances to Head Teachers, Senior Assistant and Specialist Teachers are hereby abolished.

Warden's Allowance

55.    A Member appointed by the Director of Education to act as a warden of a Hostel shall be eligible for a monthly warden's allowance at the rate, of as prescribed in Treasury Circular No. 2 of 1957 as amended by Treasury (Est.) 1867 / Pt. 8 / Vol. 11 / 59.

Hard Living Allowance

56. The provisions governing the payment of Hard Living Allowance to members in the other Public Services, shall apply to Members of the Education Service in accordance with Circular Memorandum EO / 1079 / 1 of 4th December, 1969 which may be subjected to change from time to time.

Other Allowances

57.     Allowances that are currently payable and are not abolished by this Circular should be referred to the Director-General of the Public Services for direction.

HOSPITAL CHARGES

58. Eligibility for medical facilities shall be in accordance with existing General Orders, subject to the following modifications :

(a) Out-patient treatment          ...           ...            ... Free
(b) In-patient treatment:
(i)

Members on a clean wage salary scale the maximum of which exceeds $700 per month

1st Class $5.00 per day
(ii)

Members on a clean wage salary scale the maximum of which exceeds $250 but does not exceed $700 per month      ...      ...     ...

2nd Class $2.00 per day
(iii) Other Members                          ...      ...     ... 3rd Class $1.00   per day
(c)

Children under 10 years of age, one-half of the above rates. Children under 3 years of age, one-quarter of the above rates.

(d)

If a Member, or a member of his family at  his own request is admitted to a class of ward higher than there for which he is eligible, he shall pay charges at the full rate for the higher class applicable to members of the public.

(e)

If a Member on a clean wage salary of $600 to $700 per month or a member of his family at his own request is admitted to a First Class Ward, the charge shall be $5 per day in accordance with sub-paragraph (b) (i) above plus the difference between the full charges for the first and second class accommodation payable by a member of the public.

(f) Operation and accouchement fees- Free.
